Christy Joehl, 23, was born in Princeton, Illinois – a small, quaint, farming town of 7,000 people. Though she grew up surrounded by cornfields, she emphasizes her love for the city life and currently resides in New York City.
From the moment she could hold a pencil, Christy possessed a love for drawing. She never liked coloring books and always requested a blank sheet of paper. By fourteen, she was painting large canvases and experimenting with different mediums – watercolor, acrylic, pastels, and even mixed media. Like her love of art, fashion was an interest discovered early. She found an outlet creating paper dolls and would spend hours carefully crafting a miniature wardrobe. Growing up in a Catholic School uniform, it wasn’t necessary to frequently purchase new clothes. Every blank space in her closet ignited a spark of creativity that set her ideas into motion. “Fashion is an art to me, and art was something I understood well, even then. Illustrating became my unique form of retail therapy, and I’ve loved it ever since."
Christy recently graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Fashion Management and a minor in Art & Design. She continues to complete artwork for clients. Whether it is creating custom illustrations, designing wedding invitations, or creating artwork to be used as set pieces; she enjoys any project where she can utilize her creativity. Her resume is inclusive of the iconic fashion brand, Ralph Lauren, as well as Warner Brothers Studios and Macy's Inc. Christy currently works at Coach doing Product Development for the Coach 1941 Runway Collection.
“Art will always be a part of me. Every day, I like to believe my dreams are in the making. Every decision is a step towards where I am supposed to be, and I am enjoying every minute of it."
